After 16 years at Glenwood Elementary, Jacquie Maloney has transferred to TOHS as an attendance clerk in the front office. She fills Marla Baker’s seat as an attendance and counseling assistant.
The move was not her choice, but the district’s.
“The district office had to move me from another school and I was fortunate to be placed at TOHS,” Maloney said.
Now that she has left Glenwood she will see old students from the elementary school, which she enjoys.
“It’s fun to see my old students, to see how grown up they have become,” she said. “It’s nice to see familiar faces.” Another change of scene besides the older students will be the overwhelming size of the school.
“You go from about 20 teachers to—I don’t even know how many,” she said. “From a couple hundred kids to a couple thousand.”
Maloney’s first few days learning the ins and outs of the office have been hectic, but although her days are busy, she enjoys learning new aspects of the job. The staff, students and parents have all been nice and made her feel welcome.
“Everyone’s very nice, you just don’t know everyone here. It’s very hard to get to know everyone, it takes time.” She said.
Maloney has never worked in high school before
“I have no idea what to expect. I just want to get through it and feel like I learned what I’m doing. For now, I’m focusing on getting through this one day at a time.”
