After a challenging season, the boys team recovered during its post-season, by hiring Defensive Coach Kamron Salem, who previously coached at Westlake High School. Coach Chris Casillas has now transitioned to be the head junior varsity and varsity linebacker coach.
“The new coach is by far one of the best coaches I have ever had, he eats, sleeps and lives football…prepares us for any and every possible different situation,” senior LJ Wiley said.
Even though key players Avondre Bollar and Richard Mullaney graduated, the team has noticed certain offensive players stepping up in their place, such as junior Andrew Van Voy and seniors Wiley, Landon Poling and Blake Howell.
These advances are believed to be the solution to a crushing offense.
Off the field, players have different expectations for themselves. Senior Kyle Julier has set them above average, and wants to maintain a high GPA along with getting a scholarship to attend a university.
“Football is my life and I couldn’t have asked for anything more,” Julier said.
Due to Griffin Kramer’s recent shoulder injury, junior Clark Abourisk will take his place as starting quarterback for the time being.
“Regardless of the quarterback, the team still has a very strong foundation and thoughts are still very high for the upcoming season,” senior Dane Griffin said.
The first preseason game will be Sept. 02 at Hueneme.
