Eminem has been on the down-low lately, so his appearance on the BET Hip Hop Awards was a treat to longtime fans. Little did anyone know that when he stepped up to perform, Eminem was ready to verbally attack the President of the United States.
Ranting for over four minutes, the length of Eminem’s video alone conveys the anger that he used to pack the punch in his lyrics. The content of his rap are engaging and timely, and his blunt and unapologetic opinions poke at the contentious political climate.
The video starts off awkwardly, with Eminem messing up his words and having to start over, but once he gets his groove back, he lashes out at the President.
Eminem attacks multiple controversies surrounding the President, but his main focuses are on Trump’s alleged racism and his comments toward veterans. He mentions how Trump’s campaign received endorsements from the Klu Klux Klan as well as his Neo-Nazi supporters.
Eminem also criticizes the President’s statement towards Sen. John McCain that he likes veterans that, “weren’t captured,” claiming that Trump’s comment is evidence that, “’to him [veterans are] zeros.”
From Eminem’s support of the NFL athletes taking a knee, to his mockery of Trump supporters, his rhymes are powerful and his opinions are clear. His distaste for President Trump is the driving force behind this rap, and Eminem’s criticisms of the President are biting.
After he shares his thoughts, Eminem speaks directly to his fans, saying he doesn’t want any to support Trump, stating, “You’re either for or against,” and he’s, “Drawing a line in the sand.”
He ends this rap with a call to action, asking others to rise up, saying, “We love our military, and we love our country, but we… hate Trump!”
This blatant opposition towards the President is risky, but to the fans who agree with him, Eminem’s speaking out against Donald Trump is uplifting and inspiring.
