Going into Thursday night’s match against Valencia, Thousand Oaks High School girls volleyball was looking for their first win of the season after two rough losses. The team went into Thursday’s game expecting a tough competition from Valencia, based on past teams. They went on to win three straight sets; 25-11, 27-25, and 25-18.
Even with the difficult start to the season the team has set a high bar for itself.
“This season is going to be great. I think that this year’s team is amazing and we all bond so well. I can’t wait for some of the upcoming games, like our home game against Westlake will be great,” junior defensive specialist, Julia Allen, said.
With Allen bringing up Westlake it brings up the team’s strategies for league this year.
“I know our team can win league but this will only be possible if we fight for every point and play to the best of our ability,” Allen said.
After making a solid run last year into the second round of CIF, the team hopes to repeat their success.
“Of course I’m expecting our team to go as far into CIF as possible. There’s some great teams in CIF, so it won’t be easy, but knowing all of the girls on our team, we’re not going to go easy on any of them and we’re going to give it our absolute all. That’s what we’ve worked so hard for,” junior opposite, Emma Guillen, said.
The team will use this first win of the season as a start of good things to come.
“After winning tonight, I think we all felt we worked hard to earn that win, and that’s a feeling that I believe we’re going to have a lot of this year,” Guillen said.
