As the game started, Team USA came out firing, playing their traditional style of high and early press to keep England in their own defensive half and force turnovers. Their approach did seem to work, dominating 23-8 in shots throughout the game. But England was able to hold off USA all the way until halftime, keeping it 0-0. But USA wasn’t done yet when Carli Loyd found the ball in behind the English defense and buried a shot, extending the lead to 2-0. Throughout the rest of the game, both teams had many scoring opportunities but were unable to finish, causing the final of 2-0 and a victory to give oints to team USA as they move on through the She Believes Cup. Thursday marked USA’s sixth straight match where the Americans have not been scored on and over those six games has outscored its opponents 27-0. Before the She Believes Cup began, England had been walking into as reigning champions from winning the cup in 2019. USA had come in second that year due to lack of points they had to take the title but have been champions of the cup in 2018 and 2016. On Mar. 8 USA also won against Spain in the 1-0 victory, giving them even more points to put them in the lead of the cup.
